Your Child's First Visit

It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that children have their first dental exam around one year of age.  This allows us to work with you and your child to help them to develop great oral hygiene, to prevent cavities and to discuss habits.

When you schedule your child’s initial appointment, we will mail you a health history form, financial policy and insurance information.  Please complete them and bring them to the appointment.  At the initial appointment, we attempt to get to know and really understand each child.  All children are different and we try very hard to gain the confidence of every child. We prefer that children be accompanied in the treatment rooms by their parent for most visits.  For toddlers, we begin the important first visit by introducing the office environment and ourselves.  For children over three, an examination, thorough cleaning and fluoride treatment are usually performed.  Any necessary x-rays of the teeth and jaws will also be made.  During the examination, Dr Johnson will discuss with you the results of the examination and treatment recommendations.
